Mission Statement

The Manitoba Hang Gliding Association (MHGA) was founded as a volunteer, non-profit organization in 1980. In general, it's aim is to promote the safe enjoyment of the sport, promote public awareness of hang gliding in Manitoba and promote excellence in the sport through competitions. The Manitoba Hang Gliding Association is the Manitoba chapter of the Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association of Canada.

    More specifically, the Manitoba Hang Gliding Association's aim is to:
    • Promote the safe enjoyment of hang gliding in Manitoba by:

    • insuring that certified instructors are available
    • providing certified testing for the rating of Manitoba pilots
    • identifying safe, controlled flying sites
    • assuring that only manufacturer's certified gliders are flown at Manitoba Hang Gliding Association competitions
    • providing third party liability insurance to Manitoba Hang Gliding Association members
    • providing access, for members, to the use of the Manitoba Hang Gliding Association tow system and tandem glider
    • insuring that Manitoba Hang Gliding Association members maintain a current flight log book.
    • Promote a good public awareness of hang gliding in Manitoba by:
    • maintaining a Site Committee to act as a liaison between land owners and the Manitoba Hang Gliding Association membership
    • promoting hang gliding through public awareness shows and demonstrations
    • promoting a respect amongst the membership, for the landowners rights and wishes.
    • Promoting excellence in the sport by:
    • holding annual competitions toward a national point system
    • providing assistance to Manitoba Hang Gliding Association members to participate in out of province national competitions
    • providing programs which promote pilot development and skill growth.
